Outspoken Indonesian Lawyer Alvin Lim passes away at 47

Alvin Lim, a distinguished Indonesian lawyer noted for his outspoken demeanor and passion to helping the impoverished, passed unexpectedly on January 5, 2025, at the age of 47.

Lim was receiving treatment at Mayapada Hospital in Tangerang, Banten, at the time of his death. Colleagues noted that he had been receiving regular kidney dialysis treatments for the previous two years, however the precise cause was not revealed.

Lim was well-known for his criticism of corruption in Indonesian law enforcement institutions and for his involvement in a number of high-profile cases over his career. In Youtube video that he was posted in September 2022, he referred the prosecutor’s office as a “mafia den”, and due to this statement he was charged with slander.

He was released in December 2023 after a prosecution brought by Allianz Indonesia, where he found guilty to forged a. document and fraud at 2022. Which he is serving 4.5 in Jail but he gain a reduction.

Lim was known as a strong character in the Indonesian legal profession, it is a great loss with this sad news that he is leaving us.
